Amritsar Hooch Tragedy Live Updates: These are not deaths, but murders, says CM Bhagwant Mann

Majitha Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney stated, "An unfortunate tragedy has happened in Majitha. We got to know last night, we received reports from five villages that those who consumed liquor yesterday are in critical condition. We rushed our medical teams. Our medical teams are still going door-to-door."

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the loss of lives in a statement shared on X.

“Tragic news has been received of several people dying due to consuming poisonous liquor in some villages around Majitha. These killers of innocent people will not be spared at any cost. These are not deaths, they are murders. The culprits who have caused mourning in people’s homes due to poisonous liquor will be given the strictest punishments as per the law,” he stated.

Mann also extended his condolences to the affected families, saying, “I pray to the Almighty for the spiritual peace of the departed souls. The government stands with the families and every possible help will be provided.”

As 14 people have died after consuming spurious liquor, Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney says, "It is a very unfortunate incident, 14 people died, when we got the information, we rushed the medical teams, as of now, six persons are admitted in hospital. We are going door to door to sensitise people that spurious liquor can have effect for 24-48 hours. We are asking people who might have consumed to get a check-up done. I would advise people to not order online. Police and Excise are taking big action and arrested the main accused. People should be careful. As per the instruction of Punjab CM, the expenses of treatment will be borne by the government."
