GURGAON: Police have confirmed that Sachin, the man arrested in connection with the murder of Haryana Congress worker Himani Narwal, has confessed to the crime.
Police said that, Sachin (32), strangled 22-year-old Himani with a phone charging cable on February 27 at her residence in the Vijay Nagar area of Rohtak.
After killing her, he packed her body in a suitcase and dumped it on the highway near the Sampla bus stand.
Additionally, Sachin took valuables, including a laptop, jewelry, and other items, from Himani’s home and hid them at his mobile phone shop in Jhajjar.
Police suggested that the motive behind the murder might be related to a dispute between Sachin and Himani, possibly involving financial matters, although this is yet to be confirmed.
Police also revealed that Sachin and Himani had known each other for about a year and a half and were connected through social media.
During their investigation, authorities found bite marks and scratches on the hands of the accused.
Sources said that Sachin claimed Himani had bitten him in self-defense. Police also found a slip with some jewelry linked to the victim, and it is believed that Sachin stole Himani’s gold chain and rings before disposing of her body.
The mother of the deceased, Savita, made startling allegations. She believes that Himani's rising influence within the party had made her enemies.
Savita claimed that Himani had been receiving threats, and she suspects that her daughter's relationships with high-profile Congress leaders, such as Rahul Gandhi and the Hooda family, fueled jealousy.
"She made enemies because of this. These enemies could have been from the party or her friends," news ageny ANI quoted Savita as saying.
She added, "On February 28, she was at home, and we received a phone call from the police about the incident. My daughter was very close to Asha Hooda (wife of Bhupinder Singh Hooda). I won’t perform her last rites until she gets justice."
When asked about the suspect arrested in the case, Savita said, "I have heard his name, but I don’t know him face to face. During party meetings, many people used to meet her and me. Party workers, her friends, many used to meet. My daughter had been associated with the party for 10 years."
Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the incident, expressing concern about the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana, which he described as the worst state in India for crimes against women.
Haryana Congress leaders described Himani as an active and dedicated party worker. She had also participated in the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra and was pursuing a law degree at the time of her death.
