This week's edition of WWE SmackDown saw enthralling matches, a new match added to the Backlash card, and an exciting main event.
WWE presented the May 2nd, 2025, edition of Friday Night SmackDown from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. The night marked some exciting and thrilling encounters inside the ring, a major title match set for WWE Backlash, and a captivating tag team main event featuring the top four superstars of the WWE women's division that ended with a statement made by one of them.

LA Knight vs Damian Priest

This was a singles match between LA Knight and Damian Priest that was made following an exchange of words between them in the opening of SmackDown. The match was an exciting and fast-paced showdown that captivated the audience like no other and led them to chant 'This is Awesome' towards the end. However, Solo Sikoa came out to run interference, but both men took him down. Then Jacob Fatu interfered and destroyed both LA Knight and Damian Priest with Solo's assistance. Later on, it was announced that Fatu will defend his US title in a Fatal-4 Way against Damian Priest, LA Knight, and Drew McIntyre.

Pretty Deadly vs Fraxiom

This was a tag team match. Both teams displayed an excellent showcase of tag team wrestling. Nathan Frazer and Axiom proved their worth again in their second match on SmackDown and walked away with a victory over Pretty Deadly.

The Miz vs Aleister Black

The match marked Aleister Black's first match since returning to WWE last week. The Miz tried to establish dominance at the start and had the upper hand. However, Alesiter Black regained control and took him down. Despite Carmelo Hayes trying to interfere, Black did not flinch and finished Miz with a Black Mass for the win.

Zelina Vega vs Piper Niven

It was an exciting singles match between Zelina Vega and Piper Niven. Despite the size disadvantage, Vega fought valiantly against Niven. Moreover, Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre interfered on numerous occasions. The action was jam-packed and ended with Piper knocking Green off the ring apron and giving Vega the chance to roll her up for the pin.

Randy Orton's promo

Randy Orton came out to talk about his upcoming Undisputed WWE title match against John Cena. He reflected back on their altercation last week and said that Cena had been selling his soul for years. He vowed to inflict major damage on Cena at WWE Backlash 2025 in front of his hometown crowd and family to become the 15-time World Champion.

Rey Fenix vs Santos Escobar

The match was one of the prime highlights of the night. Both lucha stars delivered a stellar showdown and impressed the audience with their different yet similar in-ring styles. The final moments of the bout saw Rey Fenix connecting with a top rope Meteora on Santos Escobar to secure the pinfall.

Jade Cargill & Tiffany Stratton vs Nia Jax & Naomi

This was the main event of this week's WWE SmackDown episode. Despite an unlikely alliance, Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill worked well as a team against Nia Jax and Naomi. Both teams went back and forth. The ending was spectacular as Cargill powerbombed Jax from the top rope to secure the pinfall. As Cargill and Stratton celebrated, the duo had a tug of war with the WWE Women's title before Naomi came back and attacked both of them. The show ended with Naomi holding the title high in the air.
