A hidden gem for the Edmonton Oilers who helped them come out of the gruesome back-to-back losing spell was the 32 YO Calvin Pickard, their goaltender. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the goaltender. In both soccer and ice hockey, if a goalkeeper can keep the puck or ball out of the net, it makes it much harder for the other team to win!
We know, it's obvious. But consider wearing ice hockey skates and trying to save a puck from entering the net while you are also trying to balance yourself! Now, that's something insane. But that's what Calvin Pickard did for his Edmonton Oilers team. Pickard performed a game-saving stop with his pad. This one save marked the Edmonton Oilers' first win after February 5th, 2025!
Calvin Pickard accumulated 35 saves against the Carolina Hurricanes and achieved a breathtaking score of 3-1 at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Oilers defeated the Hurricanes in their home ground!

Goaltender Calvin Pickard shared, "It felt like a little bit more, for myself, coming off a tough one last weekend. And then, our team's situation right now, too. We're a great team. We're in a big slump, and we've been playing some really good teams that have been playing good hockey. But we needed to come in and have a full 60, a great game, and we did that."
