The world of MMA has witnessed some of the most interesting rivalries over time, and the one between Jon Jones and
Daniel Cormier kept the fans hooked whenever the fighters faced each other within the Octagon. While the rivalry in recent times seems to have been diffused, Bones even today believes that a third bout between the fighters would result in Jones claiming the victory. In a recent video, Cormier responded to Jones’ claims by asking the fighter to concentrate on his supposed bout against Tom Aspinall for the
heavyweight championship rather than focusing on the retired fighter and the current
color commentator.
Daniel Cormier advises Jon Jones to concentrate on the title bout against Tom Aspinall rather than talking about hypothetical fights
Jon Jones, in his recent interview with Geoffrey Woo, showcased his confidence regarding a second rematch with Daniel Cormier. Bones commented, “I believe I beat Daniel Cormier at heavyweight worse than I beat him at light heavyweight. I feel like my speed has transferred over in a way that his hasn't. I think I beat him up pretty worse at heavyweight.”
The statement took the internet by storm and caught the attention of the current UFC color commentator. While Cormier clarified his stance previously of being too old to step into the Octagon, the retired fighter posted another video as a reply to Jones’ statement.
“I am not fighting anymore. I am not a fighter. And hell you won two fights” Cormier referred to the previous two times the fighters faced each other. “I don’t know what the point to prove is by what goes on between you and I. We have seen this story. We had good fights. It was a great rivalry. I enjoyed it. I made a boatload of money. It was good.”
Daniel Cormier CLAPS BACK at Jon Jones CALLOUT: "Go Fight Tom Aspinall"
Cormier continued, “But that was seven years ago. Eight years ago was the last time we fought.” The color commentator instead proposed a “novel idea” for the heavyweight champion, “Fight the dude that’s actually wanting to fight…Tom Apsinall right? “
Cormier emphasised how Aspinall has been waiting for so long to get into the Octagon for the title bout. However, Jones’ recent commitments to a reality show have delayed the bout extensively. As of this writing, there have been no confirmed dates for the highly anticipated heavyweight bout that would decide the future champion of the division.
