New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has overtaken Shikhar Dhawan to become the second-highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The milestone came during Mumbai Indians' emphatic win over Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede, where Rohit delivered a match-winning 76 off 45 balls. The knock not only earned him the Player of the Match award, but also saw him climb above his long-time opening partner Dhawan on the all-time IPL run charts.

With this innings, Rohit now has 6,786 runs in 264 matches, at an average of 29.63 and a strike rate of 131.61. His tally includes 2 centuries, 44 half-centuries, and a whopping 292 sixes, highlighting his reputation as one of the IPL’s most explosive openers.
Dhawan, who officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 24 August 2024, held the No. 2 spot for several seasons with his consistent performances at the top of the order. His departure from the game marks the end of an era — and now, his close friend and former opening partner carries the legacy forward.
Sharma now sits just behind Virat Kohli, who leads the list with 8,326 runs in 260 matches at an average of 39.27 and a strike rate of 132.26, including 8 centuries and 59 fifties.
